Clean energy vehicles represent an opportunity to significantly lower our emissions and change the way we move goods and people.
B.C.’s Clean Energy Vehicles program encourages the use of zero emission vehicles (ZEVs) throughout the province. Today, we lead Canada in sales of electric vehicles per capita.
Residents, businesses, organizations and local governments that purchase or lease qualifying new ZEVs are eligible for incentives off the pre-tax sticker price for battery electric, fuel cell electric, plug-in hybrid electric, and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. These incentives can be combined with B.C.’s SCRAP-IT program that gets older, higher emission vehicles off the road.
Through B.C.’s Climate Leadership Plan, the Clean Energy Vehicle program is being expanded to support new vehicle incentives and infrastructure, as well as education and economic development initiatives.
To further drive the adoption of electric vehicles, B.C.’s Climate Leadership Plan is also promoting increased access to charging stations by:
- Developing regulations to allow local governments to require new buildings to install adequate infrastructure for electric vehicle charging.
- Developing policies to facilitate installing charging stations in strata buildings and developments.
